The Nordic Region

The Nordic region is the domestic market of Telenor Group. The Telenor Group has pioneered the Norwegian telecommunication industry since 1855, and has also gained a strong position in Denmark and Sweden.

Strong financial contributions

In the first quarter of 2009, our Nordic mobile and fixed operations generated 41 per cent of Group revenues and 36 per cent of Group EBITDA. At the end of the first quarter of 2009, Telenor had 6.6 million mobile subscriptions in Norway, Denmark and Sweden.

Wide range of services

Telenor Group provides mobile and fixed-line telecommunication services in Norway, Denmark and Sweden, and has a particularly strong position in the rapidly growing Nordic broadband market. Telenor is also the leading provider of television and satellite broadcasting services in the region, and operates the national terrestrial broadcast network in Norway.

Telenor has a strong position in Scandinavia, being the leading player in broadband and TV services, and the second-largest on mobile services in terms of subscribers.

Positioning Telenor in a converging market

In the highly developed Nordic market, Telenor is creating new content for both mobile and broadband platforms. With 4G licences already acquired in Sweden and Norway, we will continue to develop our mobile broadband services in the years to come and maintain our strong foothold in the domestic Nordic market.

Scandinavia is the region with the superior level of broadband penetration where the markets were deregulated at an early stage and population boasts high level of educatation and spending power. Telenor is the largest provider of broadband access in Scandinavia with 1.7 million broadband subscriptions. The broadband market share of Telenor in Scandinavia is 26 per cent.

The mobile penetration is over 100 per cent in the region. Telenor has 6.7 million mobile subscriptions in Scandinavia with a market share of 28 per cent.
